Context
I joined DreamWorks Animation to lead design for the studio’s next generation of 3D animation and lighting tools. The goal was to modernize the production pipeline by creating a cohesive set of tools that could support feature film development at scale, while also opening the door to future licensing opportunities.
While DreamWorks is best known for its films, the studio was actively exploring broader uses of its animation and visualization technology, from external product visualization to new business initiatives. As the ecosystem of tools grew, it became clear that design needed to play a more central role in ensuring usability, consistency, and long-term coherence.
I built and led a design team focused on shared interaction patterns, workflows, and end-to-end experiences across the production pipeline. Beyond improving existing tools, we identified gaps and proposed new applications that better supported artists, technical directors, and production teams.
The work spanned multiple animated feature films, core internal tools, new business efforts, and public-facing experiences such as retail and museum exhibits. Together, it helped modernize how the studio designed and scaled its creative technology, and positioned design as a strategic partner in both storytelling and innovation.
